FAQs

Travel Insurance

Am I covered if I am pregnant?
Yes, provided you are not traveling against doctor's advice. No cover is given under Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of this policy in respect of any claim arising from pregnancy within 8 weeks (or 16 weeks in the case of a known multiple pregnancy) of the estimated date of delivery. Please refer to the terms and conditions.
What is a policy Excess?
Most sections of the policy carry an Excess. This is the first amount of any claim that you will have to pay. The amount may vary depending on the level of cover you have chosen. It is applicable per person per section. The Excess will be reduced to NIL if you have used a EHIC (Formally E111) to reduce your medical expenses bill or paid the Excess Waiver premium. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can be used to cover any necessary medical treatment due to either an accident or illness within the European Economic Area (EEA). The EHIC entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within the country they are visiting and the service provided will be the same as received by a person covered by the country's 'insured' medical scheme.

The EHIC is the replacement for the E111. As of 1 January 2006, E111s are not valid.

How to Apply for the EHIC:

  • At the Post Office® - Takes 21 Days - You can collect an application form and post it yourself or you can use the Post Office® Check & Send service, where they will check the application form and post the form off for you. This service offers the convenience, ease and reassurance that the form is completed correctly and the charge is £2 per application form. Your application should be processed within 21 days.
  • By Telephone - Takes 10 Days - You can telephone the NHSBSA EHIC Application Line on 0845 606 2030. Your application should be processed within 10 days.
  • Online - Takes 7 Days - You can use the NHSBSA website which can be found at https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do to apply yourself or you can use the Portcreek EHIC Review and Forward service on this website. This service means that you will have the reassurance that all of your details have been checked by us for common mistakes made during applications and that we will contact you directly should we believe there will be any problems with your application which could delay it's processing. Your application will then be submitted to the NHSBSA by Portcreek on your behalf. The charge is £9.95 per application. Your application should be processed within 7 days.

Agria has grown steadily over many years into a highly successful business with a clear vision and belief in its role of providing a secure future for animal and man, for pets and their owners, and in so doing advancing the cause of a healthier society in the company of animals.

Income Protection Insurance

Can anyone Apply?

For the short-term (accident, sickness and unemployment) policy

  • You need to be over 18 and under 65 years of age;
  • In full time employment or self employed and have been for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to the start date;
  • Working and living in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

You may also be eligible for cover if you worked and lived in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man at the start date and you are subsequently posted to work outside the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for:

  • the British Armed Forces or as a civil servant in a British Embassy or Consulate; or
  • your employer is a United Kingdom registered company and you are assigned to work within the European Union.

There are some limitations to cover for self employed workers, fixed term contract workers, outlined in the policy terms and conditions.

For the long-term (sickness) income protection policy

  • The policy must start before you reach the age of 60 and your cover end before you reach the age of 68, as your policy must last for five years.

Is there a ‘deferred / wait’ period before I can claim?

The 'wait' period before you can claim will depend on the type of cover you select. The longer the wait period, the lower your monthly premiums will be.

The short-term Accident, sickness and unemployment has the following wait period options -

  • Back to Day One (30 day wait period)
  • 30 day wait period
  • 60 day wait period
  • 90 day wait period
  • 180 day wait period

You can start claiming your Income Protection Insurance after the wait period you have selected is over, for sickness or accident as certified by your doctor. For an unemployment claim, you cannot claim within the first 120 days of the start date of your policy, but after that period you can also claim after the wait period you have selected has expired.

With Long-term (sickness) benefit, the following wait period options apply -

  • Back to day one
  • 1 week
  • 4 weeks
  • 8 weeks
  • 13 weeks
  • 26 weeks
  • 52 weeks

With the combined policy the deferred periods are back to day 1 for the short-term policy and 52 weeks for the long-term policy (to ensure there is no overlap in cover these are pre-set).

Is there a maximum monthly limit?

Yes, for the short-term policy, the monthly benefit chosen must not exceed £1,500 or 60% of your gross monthly income, whichever is less.

For the long-term policy your benefit must not exceed 65% of your personal taxable income up to £60,000 per annum and anything up to 40% of amounts in excess of £60,000 per annum prior to incapacity.  Your benefit may be reduced if you make other income which would bring you over the maximum monthly limit, such as income from employment or pensions, other insurance benefits providing incapacity cover or state benefits.

How do I claim?
Contact the Protect your bubble team on 0844 871 1341 and they will help you
How long can I claim for?

For the short-term policy you can choose to receive benefit payments for up to 6 or 12 months depending on your circumstances

For the long-term policy you can claim until a point you are no longer incapacitated, until the policy term ends or until you die.

How much monthly benefit will I receive?

Short-term cover

Standard Cover
You will be entitled to an amount equal to 1/30th of the monthly benefit for each continuous day you are unable to work as a result of an accident, sickness or involuntary unemployment (if unemployment cover is selected) following the initial wait period of 30, 60, 90 or 180 days, (during which no benefit will be payable) that you choose. Payments will be made monthly in arrears.

Back to day one cover
After the initial wait period (30 days) you will be paid your full monthly benefit. Thereafter, you will be paid 1/30th of the monthly benefit for each continuous day you remain unable to work due to accident, sickness or involuntary unemployment (if unemployment cover is selected). Payments will be made monthly in arrears.

Long-term cover

Payments are made fortnightly, based on the weekly insured amount.  You will be paid one sixth of the weekly insured amount for each day's absence from work due to illness.

Is there anything I won't be covered for?

Yes, refer to the policy terms and conditions for full list of policy exclusions. As with all insurance policies, exclusions and limitations apply and it is important that you read the terms and conditions of this policy to determine if these apply to you and for full details of the cover. This will also help you understand the level of protection that this product provides.

What is the reviewable premium period?
A reviewable premium period means that premiums may start off relatively low, but will be reviewed in the future and may go up every few years or so. In some cases, the premium may be reviewable every year, or every five years, to take into account your  and our changing circumstances. There is no limit to the amount that your premium may change by, but any change will be fair and reasonable.
What is the benefit of purchasing both policies together?

You will benefit from accident, sickness and unemployment cover from day one with your short term policy. You also have a long term policy providing accident and sicness cover only running in parallel with a 52 week deferred period (during which time you can not claim on the long term policy, but can claim on the short-term policy) .

Once the short-term policy expires your long term policy continues, so you will not be left un-insured for accident and sickness as long as you continue to pay your monthly premiums.

What's the difference between Income Protection and Critical Illness?
Income protection is designed to pay out a regular monthly amount to replace a significant part of your income if you are unable to work due to most illnesses or accidental injury whereas critical illness insurance pays out a lump sum if you suffer from one of a number of insured illnesses or conditions..

Life Insurance

Why do I need Life Insurance?
If you have loved ones that are financially dependent on you, Life Insurance will provide some financial support should you die.

With Critical illness cover it will provide a lump sum to make living financially easier if you were to suffer financially by the impact of a critical illness.
What is Level Term Insurance?
What is Mortgage Life Insurance?
What is Critical Illness Cover?
How much cover do I need?
This depends on your requirements – whether you just wish to cover your mortgage outstanding balance or whether you wish to leave an extra lump sum for your dependants, in which case, level term Life insurance might be suitable for you. You should also consider any cover that you may already have – for example from your employer.
How long should my cover last for?
You can choose any duration that suits you – whether this matches your mortgage duration or the age that your children will become financially independent.
If I take out a policy in a few years time rather than now will it cost more?
Yes, age is a factor in producing a Life Insurance quote and the premiums quoted will go up the older you are. (The other common factors used to determine a quote are – Sex, health, family health history, length of cover, amount of cover and smoking status).
Will I need a medical?
This is dependent upon individual circumstances.
How long does it take for my policy to be set up?
If you are accepted under the standard underwriting criteria your policy may be set up immediately. If we require further medical information from your GP it will take a little longer.
Is there a cooling off period?
There is a 30 day cooling off period, if you cancel your policy during this time you will receive a full refund of any premium paid.
Do I get any money back if I don't die before the end of my plan?
No, this insurance only pays out as a result of an insured event (death or critical illness) during the policy term.

Car Hire Insurance

Why do I need Car Hire Insurance and what is it?
When you hire a car in the UK, Europe or further a-field your car rental agreement will cover CDW (collision damage waiver), theft and third party liability. Should anything happen to the vehicle during your rental agreement you will be required to pay a portion of the costs to the car rental company (the excess). This can be as much as £2,000 with some car rental companies. This insurance is designed to cover this excess payment, as well as other items such as damage to tyres, windscreens and the under body of the car which are often the financial responsibility of the hirer and can be expensive!
Why should I buy from you and not the car rental company?
It is your choice if and where you decide to purchase a Hire Car Insurance policy. By purchasing a policy with Protect your bubble prior to departure you have time to review and understand the cover being provided (if you buy at the car rental desk you are unlikely to have time to read the terms and conditions of any additional waiver cover purchased). Our policy is in plain English, not translated from the local language. Our cover is much wider than most car rental companies and includes benefits for lost keys, lock out cover, personal accident, baggage, curtailment and drop-off charges. Protect your bubble’s Car Hire Excess Insurance could provide significant cost savings against the charges made by car rental companies.
What is covered under this policy?
This insurance insures the policyholder as Lead Driver on the car rental agreement plus any other persons eligible to buy this insurance if they are named on the certificate of insurance and car rental agreement for any physical loss or damage to the vehicle hired up to the excess shown in the car rental agreement including loss or damage to tyres, windscreen, under body of the vehicle and towing charges. In addition the policy also covers for each car rental agreement:
What is the 150 kilometre restriction?
For clients living in the UK or Republic of Ireland this policy includes rentals in home country as long as such rentals commence more than 150KMS (93 miles) from home address. This restriction can be removed by adding the Near Home Rental option. For clients living outside the UK or Republic of Ireland, this policy excludes rentals in home country.
Are other people travelling with me insured?
Our policies cover the policy holder (who must be the person renting the car) plus any additional drivers declared on the car rental agreement.
What countries are included in Europe and Worldwide?
There are two territories: - 1. Europe - means all countries West of the Ural Mountains, British Isles, Ireland, islands in the Mediterranean, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Canary Islands, Madeira, Iceland and the Azores, except rentals within 150 kilometres of your home in your usual country of residence. 2. Worldwide - means any country In addition we offer worldwide including SLI. Supplementary Liability Insurance. (SLI) is top up third party insurance applicable to those territories where there is no or very low limits of third party liability insurance, for example, USA. SLI tops up any mandatory insurance to $1,000,000
What is SLI – When and why should I include this?
This allows you to top up your third party liability cover (third party liability covers you for any negligent act that causes damage to another persons property or bodily injury). It is supplementary Liability Insurance and provides 3rd party liability up to $1m and is required where there is no or very low limits of third party liability cover. In certain territories outside of the European Union third party liability insurance is not mandatory or the mandatory limits are inadequate. This includes countries such as the USA, Canada and New Zealand for example. Your car rental company may include adequate third party liability as part of your rental but you should ask them to confirm the amount of cover provided. If your car rental company does not provide adequate third party liability they will offer this when you pick-up your car. This means that there is likely to be a substantial additional cost to your car rental package. Protect your bubble’s SLI cover provides you with peace of mind by topping up the cover to $1,000,000.
What is an annual policy
An annual policy covers you for unlimited car rentals during the year up to 31 days per rental.
How does the insurance work?
Once you purchase the policy you do not need to buy any additional insurance from the car rental company. The car rental company will reserve the excess amount shown in the car rental agreement against your credit card to cover damage that you might incur during the rental. If you do damage the car the car rental company will assess the damage and provide you with a loss damage report and deduct the amount from your credit card. On your return home please contact AXA Assistance (their details are in the policy) to report the claim. Once you submit the claim form and documents required to prove the loss occurred it takes approximately 10 days to settle the claim. Our product administrators Questor Insurance are there to assist you once your claim is submitted and they have processes in place to ensure that claims are dealt with efficiently and within the agreed service level agreements.
How do I make a claim?
