As
winter becomes a dim memory, you may find yourself getting out and about more
to soak up the sun. Many people rarely leave the house nowadays without some
form of electronic gadget; you may take your laptop everywhere with you to work
upon, you may have a handheld games
console or iPod to while away
your spare time, and many of us rarely leave home without a mobile phone . This
brings us to the main drawback of owning such gadgets: battery life. At one
point, most of us will experience the frustration of a device cutting out when
it’s needed most. Infinit has realised this and is attempting to plug the gap in the market for charging devices with the Solar Charging Bag, a back pack which it says will be able to charge most mobile devices. The bag has a 2.4 watt photovoltaic solar panel to soak up the sun’s rays, which it then stores in a 2000mAH Li ion high capacity battery, stored away inside it. The battery can then be used to charge up a host of mobile devices including mobile phones, iPods and other MP3 players, handheld games consoles such as the Nintendo DS and even satellite navigation systems. The battery can even be plugged into the gadget and the solar panel, giving you continuous power whilst charging the device. It may be an eco friendly way of staying charged up whilst out and about, but it is only as effective as the weather allows. Charging the battery up to capacity depends on the amount of light it is exposed to; on a bright day, it will take roughly 8 hours to hit full capacity but on a dismal, overcast day this is likely to rise to 12 hours. There is also the issue of carrying several portable devices with you in such a bag. There is always a chance you may leave it somewhere or be a target for thieves, so it’s wise to make sure you take out some form of gadget insurance in case of loss, damage or theft. It’s also worth noting that the bag does not yet support laptops or notebooks, but Infinit says this is a feature that will be included in later models. |
