Nowadays, it seems like the average person cannot bear to be separated from their electronic gadgets. Have you ever left your house and later realised that you have forgotten to take your mobile phone? If you have, and had felt some measure of anxiety, you would not be alone. There are some who can’t even bear not having an internet connection for any length of time, and start to experience withdrawal symptoms.
We are so used to having gadgets to hand; we take them everywhere, including music festivals such as Glastonbury.
Traditionally, packing for a music festival would only consist of a tent, a sleeping bag and a pair of wellies, but a survey by Post Office Home Insurance of people attending music festivals and concerts this summer has unmasked us for the techno-addicts we are.
According to the report, an amazing 12 million cameras will be taken along by festivalgoers and a million people will be taking cordless hair straighteners. In order to maintain their technological connectivity, a million people will be taking along lap top computers and even iPads.
As the number of gadgets that people take along to festivals increases, so does the number of thefts. Taking out gadget insurance may be a wise investment if you’re going to a festival this year, as the number of reported thefts from last year’s music festivals increased by 44% compared to the year before.
Despite the obvious risks, 80 per cent of festivalgoers will be taking along a mobile phone, of which 8 per cent will have an iPhone, 7 per cent a Blackberry and 11 per cent who will be taking another type of smartphone.
As if there wasn’t enough music on offer, 21 per cent will be taking along an iPod or other music player. Whilst laptops and hair straighteners are not essential for enjoying a festival, cash and credit cards are, and these also need to be kept safe.
Festivals can provide rich pickings for thieves, so it’s essential to think about gadget insurance . It’s best to take the things that you really need, and keep them on your person at all times; a huge proportion of thefts occur when things are left in tents or unattended backpacks. With a little care, you can enjoy the festival without any worries. |
