Third Party, Fire and Theft is a similar type of car insurance as third party insurance but in addition covers you for damage to your car as a result of fire or if it is stolen. Those who live or work in areas where car theft crime is generally something to be concerned of, often choose to increase cover from third party car insurance to Third Party, Fire and Theft Cover. Bear in mind, you'll often have to pay an excess if you claim, and your no claims bonus may also be affected.
If you have a car that's not worth much it might make the additional cost of fire and theft not worth the extra expense as the claim you make may as a consequence increase your premiums in the long run. It may however be worth taking out if your car has no fitted alarm, is parked on a street or out of sight, or if you want it covered against fire or theft but do not want to pay for a comprehensive car insurance cover. The decision should however be made based on your individual circumstance.
