Bicycle Insurance

What we can’t cover

What we can’t cover - exclusions

At Protect your bubble we understand that keeping your bicycle safe and protected is important to you, which is why we provide two levels of comprehensive and affordable bicycle insurance cover. As with all insurances there are some policy exclusions which you will not be covered for and here is a useful list.

Theft of Your Bicycle

Tyres & removable parts are not covered by your insurance unless your bicycle is stolen at the same time. It is also important to know that if you are borrowing or hiring a bike from another person, your bicycle will not be covered by your insurance if it is stolen. It is only the bike that you have registered under your bicycle insurance that will be covered in the event of a claim.  Borrowed bikes, even if borrowed from a family member, are not covered.

Accidental Damage to Your Bicycle

If you accidentally damage your bicycle your Protect your bubble Bicycle Insurance covers you for repair up to the level of functionality that the bicycle was in before the damage. Exclusions under this part of your cover include wear and tear and any cosmetic scratches or dents that don’t affect the performance and function of your bike. It’s also important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions when maintaining your bicycle and riding your bicycle and if you find a fault or defect you will need to contact the seller to return or exchange your bike rather than contact your bicycle insurance provider. Tyres and accessories are not covered under the accidental damage section of your bicycle insurance policy.

Public Liability

Public liability cover is designed to cover legal expenses if you cause accidental bodily injury, death, disease or accidental damage to any person or third party property which arises from your use of or ownership of your insured bicycle. It means you will be covered for damages that are awarded against you.

You won’t be covered if you cause damage to your own property or property under your care. You won’t be covered under this part of your insurance if you injure a member of your own family or employee or damage their property. Cover excludes any person under the age of 16 or over the age of 85.

You are not entitled to public liability cover where you are entitled to indemnity from another source or where punitive or exemplary or aggravated damages are awarded against you (where a court has decided to take compensation from you in order to reform or deter you and others from engaging in similar conduct in the future).

This part of your bicycle insurance cover is subject to an Excess of £250 for each and every claim arising from damage to third party property and an Excess of £500 for each and every claim arising from third party injury which must be settled by you in the event of a claim.

Personal Accident (applicable to Adventure Cover only)

Within the Territorial Limits shown on your policy wording, Protect your bubble Bicycle insurance will pay you or any member of your family if you are involved in an Accident whilst using the bicycle, which independently of any other cause, causes bodily injury which results in either death, loss of limb, loss of sight or permanent total disablement.

What is not covered under this section of your insurance is suicide, attempted suicide or intentional self-injury or deliberate exposure to exceptional danger (except in an attempt to save human life), bodily injury when directly or indirectly resulting from stress, trauma or psychiatric illness, any benefit when death, injury or loss does not occur within 180 days of the accident.

You will not be covered for an accident not involving the use of the Bicycle or if you were using the Bicycle for racing or competition other than a road based time trial.

Replacement Bicycle Hire

Within the United Kingdom, Protect your bubble will pay up to £25 per day up to a maximum 10 days during any one Period of Insurance towards the hire of an alternative bicycle from a recognised reputable bicycle dealer whilst awaiting repair or replacement of your bicycle when it is the subject of an approved claim.

You won’t be covered if you do not agree the cost of hire with Protect your bubble in advance of the hire and you are unable to provide evidence/receipts showing how much it cost you to hire a replacement.

Get You Home Cover

If you suffer irreparable damage to your bicycle and you are more than one mile from your home Protect your bubble Bicycle insurance will pay for the reasonable cost of taxi hire in order to get you and your bike to your onward destination or home. This will only be considered as part of a claim for repair or replacement of the insured bicycle. We will pay for up to £250 in taxi hire in any single period of insurance and always remember to keep your taxi fare receipt as you will need to produce it for a successful claim. You won’t be covered for any costs other than the taxi fare to transport you and your bicycle to your onward destination.
