Everything you need to know about the iPhone 7

08 September 2016

Matt Tempest

It’s September which can only mean one thing, the iPhone launch is upon us! Whilst the build up to the release of the iPhone 7 was largely met with a lack of enthusiasm to what was anticipated to be essentially an iPhone 6S Mark II the iPhone 7 whilst delivering no great new innovation delivers more than initially thought!

iPhone 7 colour range

New Home button (or lack of):

For the first time in its history Apple has redesigned the home button on the iPhone. It’s no longer an actual button that’s pressed in, rather a button that’s operated through force touch which will work very similarly to the trackpads in the more recent Macbook Pro’s.

Water-resistant:

We ran a twitter poll recently asking you guys what you wanted the most from the iPhone upgrade and water resistant won by a a country mile. You’ll be pleased to know that the new iPhone 7 will be both water & dust resistant as Apple demonstrated by showing a video of a kid falling into a pool.

No headphone jack:

So the rumours are confirmed and the headphone jack really is gone. Apple’s new headphones which they have named the EarPods will connect through the Lightning port but fear not, you’ll also get an adaptor in the box so you can use the headphones you already own which of course have a headphone jack. Apple have also released some new wireless headphones with auto pairing. Whilst sounding fantastic they will set you back a few bob!

New camera:

The iPhone 7 will come with the same 12-megapixel camera which features on the iPhone 6S, but has had some tweaks and now offers far greater image stabilisation which is a huge advancement. The iPhone 7 Plus as predicted now comes with a, 56mm telephoto lens on the back that will allow for far greater zooming when taking photos and brings the iPhone 7 into line with some of the leading Android camera phones. The front facing camera has also had a face lift and upgrade making Facetime even clearer!

Revamp under the hood & far greater battery life:

The iPhone 7 has a brand new A10 fusion chip with a 64-bit processor which Apple states is 40% faster than last year’s A9 chip. To sum it up the new chip and operating system changes will make gaming on the iPhone far more vivid whilst the battery life is supposed to of dramatically improved. (Time will tell with this one!)

Stereo speakers:

Once Apple bought Beats this should always of been a given! The new iPhones will feature stereo speakers. (One at the top & one at the bottom) This is new for Apple and a welcomed improvement.
