iPad 2 Focuses On Screen Visibility Rather Than Resolution

The hotly anticipated new iPad will not feature an increase in resolution, according to a report.

An industry analyst is reported to have told Apple Insider that the next device will use the same
1024x768 resolution, because of cost and time issues to manufacture a 2048x1536 display.

The insider said the improvement of display “focuses on thickness and anti-reflection, not resolution.”

Instead, the screen will be improved to work better in sunlight and it will feature a dual-core processor to provide a balance between increased power and battery life.

Other features include front- and rear-facing cameras for FaceTime support, as well as a thinner form factor of up to 35%.

The iPad 2 is expected to go on sale later this year in March/April, with news that Apple are preparing to ship up to five million devices in the first quarter of this year alone.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the new iPad’s resolution would double to rival the ‘retina display’ of the iPhone 4.
