Probably the most eagerly anticipated gadget on the market, Apple’s iPad 2.0, continues to fascinate tech watchers and the Internet is awash with rumours about what it will include.

Respected techno-soothsayer The Economic Daily News, a paper based in Taiwan, is reporting that the next iPad will come have two cameras, a video-calling facility, and a USB port.

The paper also suggested that the device could be updated with a seven-inch screen and a three-axis gyroscope, enabling it to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Blackberry’s PlayBook.

The Economic Daily News, which was one of the first news sources to correctly report that Apple would release a tablet, and not a netbook device, reported last week that Apple will start producing the iPad 2.0 by the end of the year.

Taiwanese newspapers have become respected sources for their scoops concerning the world’s gadgets as many of them are manufactured in their country.

Taiwanese companies such as Largan Precision and Hon Hai Precision Industry (trading as Foxconn) are involved in all aspects of provision to the electronics market from making and supplying components to final assembly.

The Economic Daily News reported that Largan will be supplying the camera lenses for the iPad 2.0 and Hon Hai is taking care of the final assembly.

It is also reported that another Taiwanese firm, Chimei Innolux, will be supplying the iPad’s seven-inch LCD touchscreens, which will utilise the same ‘in-plane switching’ (IPS) technology found on the current model.

Manufacturers and component makers for big technological contractors very rarely reveal what products they are working on or who they are working with. Failures to adhere to security procedures and maintain secrecy can lead to the loss of contracts.

Unsurprisingly, none of the companies named by the Economic Daily News in its iPad 2.0 story, have been available for comment to the media.
