There are not many, if any, technologies that have invaded and taken a grip on our lives as much as mobile phones and tablets have and it seems mothers in particular will feel affect this month. We surveyed over 2000 people and found that rather than pining for flashy gifts, the item topping Mother’s Day wish lists is quality time with their children (49%)

More than six in 10 (63%) parents admit that their tech-obsessed kids spend too much time using the latest gadgets, rather than enjoying quality time with family. The research also found that children under 18 spend almost a quarter of their day using gadgets, with an average 5.8 hours spent using smartphones, tablets, computers and games consoles every day.

Most parents long for more family time, with 86% wishing that activities were a regular feature in their lives. Family walks were the most popular activity that British parents would like to do more of (44%), followed by eating dinner together (41%). In a close third place, 40% of parents wish their kids would simply talk more to them more without being distracted by gadgets.

Seven in 10 (69%) mums admit that their children's excessive tech usage winds them up, while a further 70% of parents noted that their kids’ bad tech habits and their carelessness around loss, damage and theft has caused them unnecessary stress.

James Brown, Protect Your Bubble director comments:

“With seven in 10 mums admitting their kids’ tech addiction winds them up, it seems that Mother’s Day 2018 is the ideal time to give your gadgets a break.

“Interestingly enough, it seems that’s what mums are craving the most this Sunday is simply some quality time with their children, free of distractions.

“If you want to avoid the stress of your child’s carelessness around tech, considering taking out a comprehensive insurance policy that will safeguard you from the hassle.”
