Maybe it’s just me, but didn’t the pre-release buzz around the Galaxy S9 and S9+ seem a little less *buzzy* than usual?

Yes, the handset looks very similar to the S8 and some of the improvements are incremental rather than game-changing - but from what we've seen of it, Samsung's new flagship phone is pushing boundaries.

If you’re considering an upgrade (you lucky thing), here are some interesting features that might help you decide:

Improved camera

One of the main selling points is the impressive new camera, which Samsung say adapts to different lighting ‘like the human eye’. Bold claim!

The main camera is the same on both devices, boasting a dual aperture it automatically swaps between to deliver the best possible photos. The S9+ also has a special secondary lens to help you take perfect snaps at distance. Nifty

Super slow-mo video recording

It’s crazy how much cooler everything looks in slow-mo. Even things that are normally boring become wind-swept and epic with just a quick tap of a finger with the S9.

Putting on your jacket is usually uneventful, right? Not anymore. In slow-mo, you’re bascially Jay Z - adjusting your lapel and nodding to security as you confidently enter a nightclub. Gamechanging glow-up.

AR Emoji

AR Emoji is Samsung's answer to iPhone's Animoji feature. Just take a selfie and the S9 magically conjures a tiny 3D avatar of you.

Watch in awe as your little doppelganger mimics your facial expressions while you take snapshots to share with your pals. Pretty cool.

Some people love it, others refuse to acknowledge the existence of their animated self because they don't think it ‘actually’ looks like them (disclaimer: it definitely does).

Samsung is also adding Mickey Mouse and a host of other Disney/Pixar characters into the mix very soon. Oh boy!

Quite literally music to our ears. The new speakers provide more volume and better sound quality than the S8. Perfect for when you’re on the go or shuffling around the house listening to Whitney.
