Looking for something to do while you’re stuck indoors? We’ve had a good look through the full PS4 catalogue to find the best free games currently available on the Playstation Network.

Brawlhalla

Brawlhalla is a new entry to our list in February 2021. A fun-filled, frenetic beat-em-up; this is the closest thing you can get to Super Smash Bros. on PS4, and the best thing about it is that it's crossplay-enabled so you can play with your friends across any platforms. It's colourful, dynamic and challenging, and well worth a look if you're looking for a retro style fighting game.

Ratchet and Clank (available from March 1st)

Ratchet and Clank came out in 2016, but it still holds up as one of the most entertaining platformers available on any modern console. With impressive graphics, crazy weapons, and a bunch of secret unlocks waiting to be discovered, it's definitely worth a download. You'll have to wait a few days before you can get your hands on it for free, but the beauty of this release is, you don't even need a PS Plus account for access. Just search for it in the Store from the 1st of March. Result!

Modern Warfare: Warzone

This free offshoot-version of Modern Warfare registered over 60 million players in under three months – and for good reason. It’s probably the most intense and compelling online gaming experience going at the moment - and with a stream of nightly tournaments to drop into, you’ll never be short of new challenges. The game is still receiving constant updates, and rumours suggest it’ll continue to be supported by Activision for years to come. Great fun – just make sure you stay away from fire station ladders in Verdansk (seriously, don’t say we didn’t warn you).

Apex Legends

Another critically acclaimed Battle Royale game makes the list, but this one has a futuristic feel and a slightly more vibrant aesthetic. It’s arguably the slickest, most entertaining, and polished game in its category and it continues to set all the trends in the genre. The world-map is flawless and they’re constantly adding new features and opening up new areas to explore, so no two games will be the same. Well worth a download.

Fortnite

One of the most talked-about and played games of all time, a favourite of youngsters the world over and a genuine cultural phenomenon. Don’t let the cartoony graphics fool you though, there’s an extremely deep and compelling game in there. Even if you’re usually into grittier gaming experiences and the bright aesthetics put you off a bit, we highly recommend you spend some time with it. You might just like it!
