Keep your bike in peak condition for your weekend outings

Your mountain bike is something you want to care for; while mountain bike insurance from Protect your bubble will protect you should something happen to your cycle, you can also work to protect your bike with regular maintenance. There are just a few steps to basic mountain bike care to help keep you on the trails:

1. Keep your cycle dry

Your bike will get wet on muddy trails, when you bike in rainy weather, and if you decide to cross a small creek or brook while you're out. When you're done with your ride, take the time to dry your bicycle, protecting it from rust and wear.

2. Clean your bike regularly

Your bike will work much more easily when it is clean, avoiding built up lubricant on the chain and muddy residue in the gears. Take your bicycle apart to clean the various parts with soapy water and a gentle towel or brush; dry each part as you go.

3. Regularly examine your cycle for wear

Has the chain over-stretched? Are your brake pads still in good shape? Are the tires over-worn? Checking these parts regularly and replacing or repairing them as necessary will keep your mountain bike in great shape for longer.

4. Optimise your bicycle for performance

Ensure that your bike is at its best by maintaining it regularly. Center your wheels and keep close watch on your cables and housings, as problems with these often cause shifting issues.
