A list of the top 20 gadgets of 2010 has been published by the consumer electronics site gdgt.com and whilst it is no surprise to see Apple’s iPad at number one, the iPhone 4 might cause a few surprises at number two in the list.

The Apple smartphone appears to have ridden the storm around its launch which saw early adopters complain about antenna problems and now it seems the new phone is almost as popular as the ‘game changing’ tablet sensation – the iPad.

The brilliant arrival of the iPad in 2010 has seen rival companies scrambling to release their own versions to try and compete in the tablet space – which can only be a good thing for consumers.

Behind the iPad and the iPhone 4, the HTC Google Nexus One phone, the Microsoft Xbox 360, the Sony PlayStation 3 Slim and the Boxee Box by D-Link all featured near the top of the gdgt.com list, whilst the iPhone 3GS continues to appeal – listed at number seven.

It is perhaps a surprise to see the Microsoft Kinect down at number 14 in the top 20, but the Xbox 360 accessory was only launched a month ago so perhaps has not yet had time to make a bigger impact. The device allows game players to use their body to control the console, changing the way games can be played to make them far more interactive.
